Virginia Tech Helicopter Tension Control of Ground Robot

The Virginia Tech Mechanical Engineering Department's Unmanned Systems Laboratory (USL) demonstrates a helicopter-deployed ground robot. The robot is lowered from the helicopter and can drive around and send video back to the ground station. Other features, including an emergency release, are also tested. The helicopter is controlled with the wePilot 1000 flight control system. The robust contol methodology guarantees stability even with varying dynamics.

Wolverine III UAS Tethered Power Testing

This is a short clip of the endurance testing Viking Aerospace has been doing for the Wolverine UAV helicopter. The helicopter is 25 lbs, 3 blade head configuration, DC power supply on the ground feeding the helicopter through a tether so that we can stay in the air as long as we pay the electric bill.

Swinging Payload Autopilot Test

The following situation shows the wePilot Flight Control System in the situation of managing a moving payload. The video demonstrates the ability of the Autopilot to correct the Helicopter real time and correct the situation of an 2 lb payload that is moving via a connected swinging rope. The autopilot’s program will continually make corrections to the helicopter to balance and manage the payload. This is an example of the sophistication and capability of the platform to stabalize itself in uncertain trim points.
